South Devon UTC
Key facts & challenges
- Summary
- South Devon UTC will be the area's first University Technical College, offering learning opportunities for 600 young people between 14-18. The college has been built on a challenging site in Newton Abbot, and will specialise in water, engineering and the environment, to help boost the numbers of technicians in the area. The four storey 4700m2 facility with a full height atrium is also the first rural UTC to be constructed. With innovation and sustainability key to the features and build process, GTEC Weather Defence, which has a fully recyclable gypsum core was chosen for the frame based construction methods, to provide a faster way to weathertight and airtight the building.

- Installation
- Creating an environment which help ensures the best possible educational outcomes are considered very highly in the design.Siniat developed solutions that ensured that the design not only inspire students and teachers, but the wall partitions would provide high levels of classroom-to-classroom acoustic insulation and enhance speech clarity. Educational buildings are particularly sensitive to damage, Siniat solutions focus on robust partitions to limit this issue, which in turn reduces maintenance costs. The Facility will be completed in December 2015. ### All in one board Megadeco: A multi performance lining to meet a range of exacting requirements ### Constrained Site The new building is located on a constrained site so the design encompassed a series of external terraces to provide additional areas for recreation and outdoor teaching.
